presented is a collection of four different Illinois State Fair Medallions. All are brass, and are pin-on pieces, with the medal dangling below a state fair banner. All are dated. All have the same back-side lettering, which reads : ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE around the rim. The central wording is : TO COMMEMORATE THE VALOR OF OUR SOLDIERS AND SAILORS 1861 1865 (the Civil War) and 1898 1901 (The Spanish American War). {War names not listed. For historical purpose, I am telling you these. Only the dates are listed.} The first item offered is dated 1905, and depicts General John Mc Nulta on the front. The back side is as stated above, except the words AND SAILORS are not on it. A silvery solder mark is seen at 12 o'clock on the back of this medallion. The second item is dated 1906, and depicts Colonel James A Mulligan on the front. The back side is exactly as stated above. Much like the above piece, but this medallion appears to be pewter instead. However, the banner is definitely brass. Dark gray color, with excellent details. The third item is dated 1909, not on the banner as the others, but on the medallion. It depicts Admiral Farragut, and around the rim says it was given on U.S. Volunteers Day 1909. The back side is exactly as stated above. It also is brass.
