The F-51 (Fighter) is the USAF designation of the famed P-51 (Pursuit) of WWII. This particular copy is dated December 20, 1944 with a revision March 9, 1951. Previously a restricted item, it bears a “classification cancelled” stamp dated July 3, 1946. You can see this information in the photos I have attached. The manual is in good shape for its age although it is yellowed and appears to have been in use as a reference manual to repair aircraft. In fact, the “Model” and “Serial No.” on the front cover have “F-51D” and “44-73666” lightly written in pencil in the space provided. An internet search actually ties the manual to a particular aircraft listed in an accident report at Billy Mitchell Field in Wisconsin. Pretty cool. There are also some mechanic notes on the last page which I have included in the photos as well.
This is a great piece of military aviation history.... read more
