From the Estate of General Wilson: My brother and I recently had the opportunity to buy a number of items from the estate of Louis L. Wilson jr. who was a USAF 4 star General. We will both be listing items that belonged to the General including flight jackets and flight suits among other things. My brother's Ebay screen name is WDW4AV8 so be sure to check out the items that he has listed. All of the listed items will have "Gen.Wilson" in the title so you can use that to search for them. We will be listing the items so they will all end on the same night with a time interval between each auction so that you will be able to bid on the different items. Between the two of us, we have a lot of really nice and interesting items of General Wilson's. General Wilson had quite an interesting career and flew a lot of great aircraft like the P-47 Thunderbolt and the Convair B-36 Peacemaker as well as being involved in missile systems and the strategic management of the USAF. USAF Experimental Test Sample Flight Jacket, worn by USAF General Louis Wilson This is General Wilson's experimental test sample flight jacket. This is a custom made flight jacket that was worn by higher ranking officers in the 1960's. This flight jacket was made in 1966 and is marked as a Size 40. The label states that it is a "Type L2" and the pattern is very similar to an early L-2B flight jacket. It is in excellent condition and the only signs of age that I see are a few small holes in the knit collar and waistband, the cuffs are perfect. It retains all of the General's original insignia. It has his leather name tag with Command Pilot wings and leather tabs on the epaulets with his 4 General stars. There was also a pair of gray leather USAF flight gloves in the pocket so they are also included with the jacket. The jacket was made for him when he was a Brigadier General and they must have updated the rank as he was promoted. These flight jackets are quite rare and to find one from a four star General is even more rare. This is about as good as it gets for a collectible piece of flight gear and this would be a great investment for the future. Wilson Jr. was born in 1919 in West Virginia and graduated High School in 1937. After High School he attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg West Virginia. He served one year with the 11th Infantry U.S. Army before entering the U.S. Military Academy at West Point N.Y. in 1939. He graduated in January 1943 and completed flying school while at West Point. Wilson was first assigned to the 358th Fighter Group flying the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in Europe. He flew combat missions in support of General Patton's armored divisions. At the end of the war he had flown 114 combat missions and was the Commander of the 367th Fighter Squadron. Post WWII he began a 14 year period of duty with various units of the 8th Air Force in the Strategic Air Command. He flew both the Boeing B-29 Super Fortress and the Convair B-36 Peacemaker as a Squadron Commander. In 1964 he was assigned to Headquarters USAF in Washington D.C. where he worked on conceptual plans for the B-1 Bomber, F-15 Eagle, A-10 Thunderbolt II and advanced versions of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles.In 1968 General Wilson was appointed Vice Commander of the Space and Missile Systems Command. In 1970 he became the Commander of the Space and Missile Test Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base Ca. He was appointed Inspector General of the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and assumed duties as Vice Commander in Chief of USAFE (U.S. Air Forces In Europe) based at Ramstein Air Base Germany in 1973.
