USCG Barque Eagle Half Hull Model

Half Hull model of the " Weatherly ." This is an excellent gift for any occasion and would look great in any office or home over the fireplace or in the den . This is a solid wood model hand crafted in the USA out of the finest wood stocks available. This hull of the USCG Barque "Eagle" is 34" long. The upper hull is carved out of North American Basswood and the lower hull of Peruvian Walnut, with the waterline made of Honduras Mahogany. The hull is sealed against moisture and then finished with a minimum of 10 coats of Gloss Spar Urethane for minimum maintenance and to give the lighter woods a golden hue. The hull is sanded between each coat for maximum smoothness. Variations and blemishes in grain and wood color is natural and normal. The backboard measures 37 inches long by 7 inches and is made of Honduras Mahogany and includes a polished brass plate bearing the name of the hull and the year the original boat was built. Mounting brackets are installed on the backboard to allow a flush mount to the wall. A fact sheet containing a short history of the ship suitable for framing is included with the hull. The Eagle is a three-masted sailing barque with 21,350 square feet of sail. It is home ported at the CG Academy, New London , Connecticut . It is the only active commissioned sailing vessel in the U.S. maritime services. She is one of five such training barques in world. she is the seventh in a long line of proud cutters to bear the name and was built in 1936 as a training vessel for German Navy cadets. This is a half hull of the USCG "Eagle" even though the header of the the description says "Weatherly". Still getting used to using templates.
