This is a rare variant of the second U.S. Army contract LanCay M9 bayonet. It is in new condition. In early 1995, approximately 200 of the LanCay first contract blades with the step in the blade in front of the crossguard were placed aside in the factory, due to the blade tips being a fraction of an inch thinner then the specification called for. As the difference was extremely small, LanCay submitted a request for a variance from the Army to have these blades approved. Somehow the paperwork was misplaced and the variance was never approved during the first contract production run. When the paperwork was finally located and the variance approved by the Army, the first contract had ended. The second LanCay USGI contract called for a black oxide blade finish, so a black finish was applied to these 200 blades and they were included with the second contract. These are a true must have for the serious M9 collector, having first contract blades with the "M9 / LanCay / USA" type marking, a second contract black finish and only two hundred made, one of the rarest of the US Army production LanCay bayonets to date. I sold a similar M9 last week, these are new pictures of the exact bayonet you are bidding for. Also, this is the last of this variation that I will be selling. I have no more. Please review the pictures, this is the actual bayonet you are bidding on. Note the black oxide finish with the first contract blade markings and the first contract step on the top of the blade in front of the crossguard. The bayonet still has the factory preservative in place, I removed just enough to get a clear picture of the blade markings. Other than the blade, all other features are the same as other 2nd contract LanCay M9's, including a product improved scabbard (two tie down loops instead of four and the PIP cutter plate with sidewards screwdriver blade. This is a very rare M9 to find. I have set a reasonable reserve and buy it now price. Any serious M9 collector needs this variation in their collection. Buyer to pay $10.00 shipping by priority mail with delivery confirmation. Payment by Paypal or postal money order. US bids only, no overseas shipping.
