USMC Marine VMF VMA 513 Night Fighter Squadron Flight Jacket Size 46 This item is a size 46 USMC style, genuine leather flight jacket with nose art hand-painted on the jacket. I recently met Bob Quigley (pictured in 1951 at Kunsan , Korea ) who served with the VMF (N) 513 crewing F7F Tigercats. He is quite a character still with a lot of great anecdotes about the Korean War. Amazing history for this unit with some hilarious war stories detailed on line. Search for VMF513 and VMA513. The jacket has been painted as a tribute to the United States Marines that have served with the "Flying Nightmares". The back of the jacket has the 1951, VMF (N) 513 Number 2 Bird, a Grumman built F7F Tigercat Night-fighter hand-painted in aircraft enamel. The left sleeve of the jacket bears the Squadron Insignia as worn in 1951. The leather is in good shape, soft and supple with some vintage wear on the seams. No cuts, tears, or stains. Snaps on pockets, waist, neck, and shoulders all work fine. Twin breast flap pockets whit side entry hand-warmer pockets. Knit-cuffs and waistband have some slight pilling but no holes or wear. The Heavy-duty zipper works fine. It does not have a makers mark but has the larger - bail-type grip. Slight case of loose stitching for about 2 inches on the back seam of the right arm just above the elbow and the leather hanger-loop is loose on one side. Both are an easy fix with needle and brown thread. Inside tag for maker is gone but small size 46 tag is t The liner is s that fuzzy white fake sheepskin with brown quilted sleeve liners. The liner could use a cleaning. Regarding the artwork- I do not use airbrushes, stencils, iron-ons, decals, or add advertising. To maintain authenticity, each jacket is hand brush-painted with the appropriate aircraft enamel using only mixes of the official period "insignia kit" colors. What did you fly? What would you like on your jacket? Contact me if you interested in any custom work. I do panels, flight jackets, foot-lockers, B-4 bags, helmets, and active aircraft nose art.
