This is one of the overhead exterior passage way lights from the US Navy ship, USS Vulcan (AR-5). The light is brass and is porcelain lined. The light weighs 8 pounds. The diameter is 10 inches. The amber lens is 7 1/2 inches and has no chips or marks. The base is 6 inches. All original parts are I added a 40wt flood light and 120vt cord & switch. The light was manufactured by Winchester Industries Inc., Avon, MA. The mfg label is with the light. The Vulcan was commissioned 06/14/1941 and decommissioned 09/30/1991. She saw action WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. She served as a repair ship and received one battle star for her service. Since 1991, she has been berthed at the James River Reserve Fleet at Ft Eustis, VA. In 2006, she was sold to a ship-breaker in Cheapeake,VA. I purchaed the light from the shipbreaker. The light had three / four layers of paint coating it. The only way to confirm it was brass was to scrap a little of the paint off. 's a true piece of US maritime history. Enjoy!!!
