UZBEK PURE SILK IKAT HANDCRAFTED ABR VELVET FABRIC "BAKHMAL" Search The Art of designing of Uzbek fabrics is indeed an outstanding phenomenon of popular art. It combines high traditions of antiquity and vivid sense of modernity. Various plain and patterned handcrafted cotton, silk, semisilk fabrics of complex and simple textures were produced in Samarkand, Bukhara, Margilan, Kitab and others. The fabrics were used for making national traditional dresses and home decorations. The most famous were dense and woven of cotton and silk: piled velvet "bakhmals", repp, adras, bekasab, banoras. Methods of ornamentation of these fabrics were mainly in strip and pattern, the main features of which were indistinct with blurred contours. This method is called "abrbandi" in Central Asia, and the fabrics "abr". The main pattern-formatting importance of stripped and abr fabrics contains the foundation.
