UZBEK SILK HANDMADE EMBROIDERY - URA-TUBE SUZANI- LOTUS DESIGN The most impressing part of Uzbek handmade embroideries is a Suzani. Since ancient times Suzanis took a special place in Uzbek traditions and culture. It's surrounded Uzbek people during all their lives and has very especial value on celebrations. This name of exquisite silk embroideries comes from Persian "sozan" which means "a needle". Uzbek Silk Handmade Suzanis give us an opportunity to have an insight into the old culture and traditions of this land. Such works of Art were prepared and used for ceremonial functions like wedding dowries, fittings for horsemen and their horses, and the general embellishment of reception rooms. As soon as a daughter was born in family, the mother would start to make suzanis for her dowry, and later her daughter, too, would join her in this fine art. The patterns of suzanis are an expression of women's mood and fantasies. Suzanis are the last exponents of an age-old tradition which draw our attention by their mysteriousness and beauty. The present item is silk handmade embroidery from Uzbekistan . This suzani has a pattern of Ura-Tube embroidery. The foundation of embroidery is silk-cotton fabric. This textile is laid our fairly traditional manner. The field pattern consists of a somewhat unusual combination of floral elements combining star-shaped blossoms, seen head-on, with thick-stemmed plants bearing tulip-blossoms and buds seen in profile. They seem to grow upward, giving the pattern a subtle directional impetus. The tulips-stems are laid out in diagonal lines, above and below the star-shaped blossom, help to create the overall effect of a geometric grid into which the star-shape blossoms are set. This grit-pattern is one of the most popular devices for organizing the surface of embroidery. it is subtly indicated rather than being fully developed as the primary principle by organizing such patterns. Although the pattern would appear to be fairly restricted to a small number of floral elements that are clearly laid out, it is also quite dense in its overall effect, typical for the grid-pattern type of Central Asian embroideries. Lotus was respected as a symbol reproducing living forces in the East. Also, it was considered as a symbol of chastity. An old Uzbek legend tells us the story about the origination of this flower. A goddess Azatush had fallen in love with the god of flame Vakh, but he didn't fell the same. And, then she decided to kill him. She strained a bow's string, but she hadn't strength enough and couldn't hit him and her arrow just wounded his body. And, drops of his blood fell down the white water Lilies and painted them into red and thus Lotus appeared. Lotus was dedicated to Lakshami-goddess of health and well-being. According to old Lakay myths, goddess of beauty crossed the ocean on a Lotus' petal. The castles of eastern kings-shokhs were adorned with Lotus blossoms. This flower was respected not only by Uzbek people but also Malayans sacred it. T is a Holiday dedicated to Lotus in Japan .
