VAN BRIGGLE BUTTERFLY VASE
Early Experimental Red Orange Glaze This is a stunning VAN BRIGGLE art pottery vase! It has a wonderful arts and crafts BUTTERFLY DESIGN on both sides. The two large butterflies are nice and crisp. The butterfly vase was designed by Martha Patton in 1907-08. It is design #688. I believe this example was produced in the early time period because of its unusual glaze color. The vase is covered by an unusual vibrant red orange glaze color. T is also a yellow brown or ochre color that shows through the red orange glaze in places. The vase is incised on the bottom with the company logo and VAN BRIGGLE COLO. SPGS. It is also marked XXX. This marking appears to be in faded black ink or paint(?). I believe it indicates the use of an experimental glaze. The vase measures 3 ¾ inches in height by 3 ½ inches in diameter at the shoulder. THIS VINTAGE VASE IS IN MINT CONDITION. T are no chips, cracks, damage, or repairs. It is a wonderful example for a collection! Please ask all questions before the last day of this auction.
