This is a large...Vaseline Opalescent Glass Hen on a Nest!!!...This elegant lady sets 6 inches tall...to the tip of the tail which is the highest point...a bit over 7 inches long...and 5 and 1/2 inches across the top of the base. She appears to be in excellent condition. The only "maker's mark" that I can find are on the inside top of the hen...and the mark is a "M" in a shield. I believe this is the mark for "Mosser Glass Company"...however...I believe that these Hens...in this large size...were first made by the L. G. Wright Glass Company.....and that they first offered them for sale sometime around in out my has placed on the use of a key ingredient...uranium...that is needed to make this color of glass. Uranium is also employed in the production of armor piercing sheels used by the military...and I also feel sure that the tighter controls on uranium was put in place to keep it out of the hands of would be terrorists...hoping to build a dirty bomb.. Uranium not only gives Vaseline Glass its intriqing yellow green color but also what makes the glass give off its brilliant fluroscent glow under Black Light.
