Vatican posting for 1st LATI flight to Brazil,1939 - rare Registered airmail cover franked with Vatican stamps and carried on the first LATI Trans-Atlantic flight, unclaimed and eventually returned to sender, v.f. Sassone 519-Vatican, 1750 = $2200+. Per previous owner, "only five first flight covers are known to exist from the Vatican City". Can't vouch for the number, but this is definitely a scarce cover, of interest not just to Vatican specialists, but also to LATI memorabilia/ Italian airmail collectors.P.S. The return flight ended in a disaster: the LATI plane (SM-83, registration I-ARPA) with 7 people aboard crashed into a mountain near Mogador, Morocco, while attempting a forced landing in a storm. Everybody on board was killed (4 crew + 3 passengers). ____________________________________________________________ CONDITIONS OF SALE: PLEASE READ.
