C. VELLEIUS PATERCULUS Cum selectis VARIORUM Notis ANTONIUS THYSIUS J.C.edidit & acurate recensuit LUGD. BATAVORUM Ex officina Francisci Hackii 1659 Bound in full vellum with yapp edges, and embossed gilt panels and grand coat of arms embossed to the centre of each of the front and rear boards. It measures approx 19.4cm x 12.7cm x 2.8cm. The titles are written by hand to the spine. As can be seen from the photos, the binding is naturally a bit grubby and marked in places, a bit more so to spine. The gilt decoration to both the front and rear boards are unevenly rubbed and faded. Binding is strong. Internally the endpapers are lightly browned, foxed and grubby. The endgraved title page is a little nicked and grubby to the top margin, and creased to the top corner. The margins are lightly browned throughout, a little heavier to a few leaves. There is a little foxing in places., and the odd browned spot or light mark. There are numerous pencil markings/underlinings in places throughout, and a few small margin ink annotations. Else the contents are mostly good, clean and very reasonable condition for age. Title page, 10 pages of prelims, 1-334, 22 pages of index. The works of the Roman historian Marcus Velleius Paterculus, edited by Antonius Thysius the Younger, in contemporary vellum binding, and a lovely full page engraved title page. read more
