The New York scene in the '60s was cultivated around the avant-garde, pop art leanings of Andy Warhol and his following of bohemian oddities. In late 1965, Warhol heard the Velvet Underground play and tafter assumed a management role for the band. In 1966, he produced their first album, simply by paying for the band's studio time. Although their relationship with Warhol meant an automatic high profile, their music only reached a cult following. By 1967, Warhol was touring with the Underground through much of the East Coast. This concert at the infamous Boston Tea Party in May of 1967 was in conjunction with the release of their debut record. Not long after, however, Warhol and the band's relationship declined and they parted ways. This handbill was created in a 1960s East Coast psychedelic fashion for two very influential icons of the time. Velvet Underground handbills are becoming very collectible in the last few years because of their influence on both the music and cultural scenes. This handbill, which measures 8 1/2" x 11", is a perfect example of the significant band at an amazing venue. All four corners are in great shape with very little handling marks. T are two folds which have been flattened over the years. They are in the top and bottom right corners, but are nearly invisible from the front of the handbill. This flyer read more
