~ VERY EARLY 6 1/2" GREEN/PUMPKIN GLAZE REDWARE BOWL c1800 ~ ~ Spectacular Primitive Redware Possibly 1700s ~ You're bidding on a wonderful example of early primitive Northeast redware. This piece is in superb condition with a beautiful shiny green and pumpkin-glazed interior. The bottom shows some light scorch splashes from use and is slightly concave in design. The outer side shows the old turn marks from the potters wheel and the bowl has a nicely ridged rim. I believe the origin to be either Maine or Connecticut. I lean towards Connecticut origin as the green/pumpkin glaze closely resembles the glaze I've seen on other early Connecticut redware pieces I have obtained from time to time. Those had a manganese decoration and I believe this bowl to date before those pieces. It could very possibly date to the 1700s. The age is obvious in person and you should be able to get a good idea from the pictures. I have one other larger piece listed with a pumpkin-glazed interior. Condition: Perfect! No chips, cracks, fleabites or hairlines. No glaze misses to the beautiful green and pumpkin-glazed interior. Some dark splatter marks to the concave base consistent with age and use. Base ring is also perfect. Amazing condition given the tremendous age of this bowl. It doesn't get any better! Dimensions: 6 1/2" diameter with a 4 3/8" base ring diameter. The bowl is 1 1/2" deep. A gorgeous green/pumpkin glaze over ancient thick redware in superb condition makes this primitive piece very special indeed. Rare and valuable, this excellent redware bowl hits the auction block with no reserve and a low open. Please check my other listings for a similar redware bowl with a pumpkin-glazed interior.
