VERY EARLY PETERS & REEDSTANDARD VASE For auction is a five inch tall very early undamaged Peters & Reed vase decorated by Albert Radford. The vase is in great condition with no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, no glaze skips, no glaze flakes. Until just a year or two ago these beautiful Peters & Reed vases were art pottery mysteries, impossible to attribute because Peters & Reed did not mark their ware and art pottery scholarship hadn't yet realized the important role that this high-quality pottery Maker played in the development of American Art Pottery. But now the word is out about the many excellent pottery lines produced by this company, especially the early work w Peters & Reed relied heavily on contributions from their many ceramic designing friends and compatriots in the Roseville and Zanesville area of Ohio such as Frank Ferrell of Roseville Pottery fame. In this case the design genius behind the line was Albert Radford, one of the great tragic figures of American Art Pottery. Radford, like Frederick Hurton Rhead, was an English immigrant. Radford excelled in clay sculpting and modeling. If you've ever marveled at any of the spectacularly sculpted jardinière and pedestal sets from Weller Pottery, then you're familiar with Albert Radford's work. Radford labored for others for years, lending his unequalled skills to the ceramic art produced by other Makers, all the while dreaming of the day when he could establish his own pottery. Sadly, less than two years after he finally founded Radford Pottery right after the turn of the century, he died of a massive heart attack. Radford probably threw these Peters & Reed hand made vases; but, more importantly, he sculpted the delicate clay appliqués, e.g., the grapes & leaves on this vase, that were the dominant designs on these beautiful deep, deep mirror brown high-gloss vases. Additional photos are available upon request. All my pottery is sold AS IS. I ONLY accept money orders and cashier checks. I DO NOT accept PayPal or credit cards. Unfortunately, eBay now makes it possible for Buyers to pay via PayPal and credit cards despite this if you're not careful. They do this because they can then charge a hidden processing fee. If you make the mistake of attempting to pay for your purchase this way I will be forced to pass this surcharge on to you. It will delay shipping and cost you more. Shipping is USPS Priority Mail or Parcel Post. Insurance is optional. Don't worry too much about breakage. I go the extra mile to ensure the safety of my items. I'm downsizing my collection and will be listing dozens of pieces of pottery in the coming weeks. So keep checking to see what I'm parting with next. Good luck and good bidding.
