This auction is for a very fine antique inlaid marquetry jewelry box and has inlaid decoration all over (except for the bottom and inside). The feet are even inlaid around the edges. For it's age, this piece is in very good condition. T are some condition issues though and this box was neglected for a while and the wood got dry (which resulted in wood shrinkage). I have oiled the entire box with beeswax & lemon oil and it has really brought the wood back to life. However, t are some splits in the wood and some areas w pieces have come a little loose. T are NO LOSSES though. Everything is intact. The most major of the splits/cracks is the one that runs down the midline of the top of the box, and then t is another split along the back part of the lid (see picture 4 for these two issues). In picture five, t is a 1 1/2" long piece of wood border that is loose (easy fix). T is also some areas w t are spaces between pieces of the border (see picture 6 for a representation). All of these issues are signs of age. The inside of the case is in great shape. The fabric in the top right section (as you look at it) is a little dirty. The left side is relatively clean. The bottom section is also pretty clean. The mirror has a 1 1/2" crack along the bottom right edge (see picture 8). T is a tiny area of damage (about 1/4") on the top corner of the bottom section (left side). The hinge for the flap that comes down to lock the box (the piece that has the #16 on it) is a little loose (nails just need to be secured -- and I don't have the right tools for this). T is the original key and the box locks perfectly. The box is 9 1/4" wide, 4" tall and 3 1/4" deep. I don't know the origin of this piece by my best guess is Italy as the marquetry work is very indicative of that region. I've seen one other like this on Ebay and it had a music box inside (Swiss works). Buyer pays actual shipping costs. T is a $2.00 handling charge. Insurance is recommended on this item. I am not responsible for any damage or loss that occurs during shipping if insurance is not purchased. Paypal, money orders and personal checks accepted (paypal only for international buyers). Money orders & checks must clear before item will be sent out. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
