You are bidding on a wonderful, original WWII Japanese Army Officers Shin-gunto sword. The blade is 25 7/8âe along the back from the tip to the blade collar, the collar is 1 3/16âe and the tang after the collar is 8 1/8âe. The blade is 1 1⁄4âe across at the collar. I am told the signature is OMICHI but I am not sure what the rest of the signature says. The blade is in very nice shape with a straight temper line, no nicks and only a few minor scratches and some scattered spotting. It is a beautiful blade! T are no assembly numbers and no arsenal stamp only some ink markings at the end of the Tsuka; this would seem to indicate to me an individually produced item. While it cannot be seen in the photos the file marks on the tang are quite uniform and neatly done. The scabbard is heavy metal with wood interior and the original olive drab paint is in very good condition with no dents and the fittings are very nice as well. You will notice from the photos I have cleaned nothing, as I believe this should be at the discretion of the buyerâe¦. Only light oil on the blade and I cleaned the tang enough to see the signature clearly. The traditional Tsuka is a tight fit, wrapped in a gold colored Ito and is in nice shape, not fraying or coming apart, but a bit dirty from hand oils and use.
