6 1/2" X 7 3/4", red moroccal leather w/gilt stampings. 54 entries, all in ink, covering the period 1857 to 1865. Entries addressed to Susannah Schafer. Earliest entries from Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Later entries (after 1859) are from south central Pennsylvania (Millersburg, Halifax, Lykens Valley etc.). Most entries are quite lengthy and lyrical as evidenced by the photographs. Many Civil War period entries including one dated Nov. 5th/62 from "G(eorge) Noll. A true soldier under Capt. Lemon Commanding Officer of Co. H 8th Pa. Reserve Volunteer Corps." Noll enlisted on Sept 29, 1861 and served w/the regiment for three years through Antietam, Fredericksburg etc. and was transferred to the 191st Penna. as a veteran on May 15, 1864. Circular damp stain on front cover, otherwise excellent, interior perfect, very neat, bright, crisp entries. Interestingly it appears it was actually used upside down. Exceptional for both quality and quantity of entries. very nice. Full refund less shipping if not completely satisfied. $4.00 shipping (US).
