This is a VERY OLD Tape Measuring Tool. I found this item in an estate sale and only know that it has spent MANY decades in an attic. Collectors of vintage tools can probably narrow down its age by looking at the pics below. This item is cylindrical and measuring 2.25" in width by 3.5" diam. (both approx.). The first 5 and 1/2 inches of tape are missing but the barrel inside has a very tight roll of tape made of some very durable fabric...not sure exactly what the composition of the fabric is but very unusual. It appears to be a tape that could be used to measure very long runs in its day. This tool is not being sold as a functional tape measure but one for display or to add that very unusual tool to a collection. The crank hand has a black wooden spindle-shaped spool with one chip out of the wood--see photos. The crank is not able to roll tape in or out due to how tightly the tape is rolled up inside. I would think that this could be remedied by re-doing the inner tape but probably not desirable. If you have questions about this item, please e-mail me.
