This model was made for Kershaw and was called the Military Boot Knife in Kershaw's 1984 catalog. This is an exceptionally rare knife that is hardly ever seen. I've seen one example in the last decade and this is it. Anton Wingen Jr. made these knives for Kershaw as part of an 8 piece stag handle line in 1984. Aside from the Kershaw-marked knives, I have seen a couple examples of some models turn up with just the Wingen marks. This is the first and only such example of the military boot knife that I've seen. These knives retailed for $85 in 1984 and Kershaw sold them in very limited quantities. I thought the Survival knife was the hardest to find in the series, as I had never seen this model with just the Wingen marks and thought maybe they didn't make this model for themselves. I had bought this a while ago and had never taken it out of the sheath, not realizing what model it was until I finally decided to take a look at it. The Kershaw-marked examples are very scarce and seldom seen. I've only ever seen a couple of the Kershaw examples and this piece is much rarer than they are. Anton Wingen Jr. has always been one of my favorite Solingen makers and I have collected their knives for years. Anton Wingen Jr. ceased operations and closed their doors in the early 1990's. However, for nearly 120 years they were one of Solingen's finest makers and produced some knives of incredible quality. In my opinion this is one of the finest knives Wingen ever made. Photographing the knife was very difficult due to the extreme reflectivity of the blade. The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened and is in perfect condition. Any blemishes seen are simply reflections, as the knife is a flawless gem. The thick blade is beautifully forged from a solid piece of steel. The blade on this model has a satin finish and is not as prone to hairlines as the mirror finish blades. The design is best described as simple elegance at its finest. The integral guard is very thick and beautifully done. The stag handles are incredibly gorgeous and perfect in both form and function. The stag is even correctly done which is very rare to see. Wingen is actually one of the few makers to ever do stag correctly. Note the palm swell, or thicker section of stag on the right side of the handle. Most makers simply match the color without regard to performance. The balance is outstanding and the feel of the knife is truly exceptional. The blade measures 4-5/8" in length, while the knife is 9" in overall length. The sheath is the original and is in perfect condition. This sheath design is quite unique and I've never seen it from Wingen before. The retainer strap comes around the back of the knife and secures the knife across the guard. A sheath that actually accentuates the knife is a true rarity on a factory knife. This offering presents a unique ownership opportunity. This model is one of the rarest of the modern Wingens and it will likely be a long, long time before another example is available. A superb example of an exceptionally rare Wingen knife!! Note: Though I've largely recovered from my hand injury, it's going to take a while to get caught up on all of my shipping.
