Cottage clocks usually sell for substantially less than this particular example. However, a rarer cottage clock than this would be hard to imagine. This 100% original eight-day clock with a strike on the hours, was manufactured around 1850 by the Bradley Manufacturing Company of Southington, Connecticut (see photograph of label). The brass 8-day time and strike movement was made by the Morse Company and supplied to Bradley. Morse was a Connecticut maker of brass clock movements. This was the Morse #1 style and it makes this clock a particularly desireable specimen that knowledgeable collectors will recognize as a "prize catch". The brass movement was recently cleaned and serviced and operates perfectly. Everything about the clock (except the key)is original--hands-dial-movement-label-dial and pendulum bob. The design on the door glass includes an American Eagle with the E Pluribus Unum motto. There is a moderate amount of flaking on the glass applique (see photograph),but it retains its originality which is better than most clocks. COLLECTORS ALERT: It was suggested that we donate this to one of the clock museums, but the owner has consigned it to us to sell to our collector/clientle. So...here 'tis...to the first buyer who orders it!!!
