This auction is for a very rare ribbon for James Polk's 1844 presidential campaign. The ribbon states "JAMES K. POLK" and "GEORGE M. DALLAS" with an eagle holding a flag between. It is unlisted in Hake and AMERICAN POLITICAL RIBBONS by Fischer and Sullivan. This long ribbon is silk and measures 1 1/2" by 17 1/2". It is thin and has three vertical partings; through the "M" in "GEORGE M. DALLAS", through the middle of the right wing of the eagle, and left of the "P" in "POLK". The ribbon is also mounted with old glue in various spots on old cardstock. It's a grand rare ribbon from a very hard to collect candidate.
