Up for auction is this amazing and rare book entitled, "A Mirror for the Johannite Masons, in A Series of Letters to The Right Hon. The Earl of Aboyne". The book was written by Rev. George Oliver, DD. It was printed in 1866. The 80 page book looks into the "legality" of the use of the St. Johns as the patron saints of Freemasonry. It appears that the use of these religious characters caused a great deal of consternation at one point in English Freemasonry.

The book is simply facinating. The letters are written by George Oliver. Oliver is a Past Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mass. and is the Lt. Grand Commander of the Ancient and Accepted Rite of England and Wales. He examines the craft from an academic standpoint and discusses the regularity of Freemasonry using these two religious figues to such a degree.

The book is 141 years old. It is in nice condition. T is typical wear to the covers, bumped corners, some chips and foxing. It is very easy to read

This book is a great part of Masonic and American history. It is one of the early exposes of the Craft in the U.S. This is a work for any Masonic student, library or collection. Anyone who collects Masonic, Scottish or York Rite, Shrine or DeMolay materials would appreciate this volume.

Enjoy!
