Since the Samurai were the top social class in ancient feudal Japan, they were the aristocracy that developed the technology behind these blades that cannot be matched. Also the Samurai developed the Japanese artwork of the day and perfected other roles as they were of the highest social class. is a brief History of the important role that the Samurai Warrior has played in Japan, s history. During the Heian Period (794-1185 ce). the Samurai became more influential, in fact this period ended with 2 military clans of Samurai Warriors (Minamoto and Taira) seizing control of the country and fighting for supreme dominance and control of Japan. The Kamakura Period (1192-1333 ce) began with Minamoto Yoritomo defeating the Taira clan and becoming Shogun (highest military position) and thus was ruler of Japan. This was followed by the Era of Warring States know as the Muromachi Period (1333-1573 ce) when Japan was divided into many independent states that were always at war for land and power. This is when the Samurai was in very high demand to protect what was owned or expand ones power. This is the period that is reflected in many of the famous Samurai movies by Akira Kurosawa such as Seven Samurai, The Hidden Fortress Yojimbo and Sanjuro. Hideyoshi is the ruler who outlawed carrying a sword for anyone other than Samurai and also forced those in the Samurai class to choose between a life on a farm and a warrior, s life in a castle town as a professional soldier. Finally we have the Edo Period of Japan, s war carved history. The Edo period lasted from 1603 till 1868 when the feudal era had ended and the Samurai class was abolished. During the Edo period after the fall of Osaka Castle Japan experienced peace for the most part allowing many Samurai to pursue the life of bureaucrats, teachers and artists; however the Samurai Sword was still revered as the sacred weapon of the land. According to Japanese mythology was created from the creator plunging a sword made of coral into the Ocean and when the blade was retracted the blade dropped 3 pieces of Earth back into the Ocean forming the Islands of Japan. For a people of such integrity in everything they do, one must realize that the sacred sword that the Japanese held so dear was possibly the product of many of the country ,s most educated and devout smiths resulting in the fusion of technology and artwork. Continuous warfare of living and dying by the Sword resulted in the code of Bushido. (Way of the Warrior including strict guidelines of behavior to preserve Honor) Bushido is what governed the Samurai live a life of high honor and service and to commit ritual suicide know as seppuku, if eve...
