Seth Thomas Black Enamel This is a true rare and beautiful clock. Dates to 1892-1895. Seth Thomas only produced these black enameled iron clocks for around 3 years. I cannot find this clock in the S.T. reference book. The original 8-day brass movement, signed Seth Thomas Sons & Co., strikes on the original elegant-sounding bell. The movement runs and chimes absolutely perfectly. Seth Thomas used a similar movement in its tall bronze statue figural clocks. The front door and glass are original. The front door is made of solid and heavy bronze, iron or brass, or some combination of the three. I have never seen a front door made like this before; it is original and very unusual. The heavy back door of the clock is made of iron and glass and is removable by two hand screws, also original to case. The pendulum and the hammer strike are visible through the rear glass. The dimensions are approximately 12 1⁄2 inches tall and 10 inches wide. T are no hairline cracks in the original dial. T is a small repair just below the number 7 (see pictures). The Urn on the top of the clock has a removable lid in which to store the winding key. The case has been re-enameled at sometime in the past. The unusual case has 4 completely exposed, round columns. The graceful design of the case and columns reminds me of a clock made by the Welsh Clock Co. read more
