This Very Rare and Fabulous Designed Old Waterbury Wooden Mantle clock that pays the lovely musical Westminster chimes was found at a recent estate sale along with several other antique clocks. (Please view the pictures below ). The clock's lovely designed Case was carved from a dark Reddish Brown wood that still maintains it's original age Patina finish. The case is very impressive with a overall length of 21" and an height of 10 1/4" in the center and a depth of 6 1/2". The case was created with a large wooden cylinder shape in the center that has scrolling and flared sides. On both front sides are scrolling 's' carved pieces. The sides and lower front have molded and terrace edgings that also flare outward. The case is supported on four wooden legs. The back of the case has a hinged door for access to the movement inside. This door has the original cloth dust protector liner on the inside and a very decorative Brass grid on the outside. The front center of the wooden cylinder is w the face is displayed. The face is protected behind a thick, clear , domed and circular shaped glass panel that is framed with a polished Brass metal trim. The Glass and Brass panel is also hinged and gives access to the face beneath. The face was artistically created on a Silver coated, circular and domed shaped panel. The dial is numbered in Black Arabic script numerals. The hands are also decorative and made metal. At the top of the face is a 'Slow-fast' adjustment for the movement and below this is a 'Silent-Chime' control switch for making the chimes silent if desired. The bottom of the face is marked as follows'MANUFACTURED BY WATERBURY CLOCK CO. USA'. The movement of this clock is a rare one . It was created as a double movement with three Brass plates connected together. The movement is mounted with Brass support connectors at the bottom (also rare) . It's a 8 day , Key wind (comes with key) and operated by a Brass pendulum. The movement is also signed as follows ' PATENT PENDING WATERBURY CLOCK CO WATERBURY CONN USA'. The clock runs very good and plays the lovely tune of the Westminster Chimes on the quarter hour, half hour , 3 /4 hour and hour. The clock will also strike the times of day on the hour. The Westminster chimes are played on a five bar chime arrangement. The overall condition of the face, glass and case is very good for the clock's age. The finish on the wooden case retains the old age patina and might need cleaning or refinishing if desired. I will keep my price very low for the person that knows about this clocks collectible value and remember this auction is for only 3 days , so place your bids early. Buyer to pay shipping costs.
