This knife is a complete mystery to me. Anton Wingen Jr. made these knives for Kershaw as part of an 8 piece stag handle line in 1984. Aside from the Kershaw-marked knives, I have seen a couple examples of some models turn up with just the Wingen marks. This is the first and only example of any of the models that I've ever seen with Weidmannsheil marks. These knives retailed for $85 in 1984 and Kershaw sold them in very limited quantities. My guesses would be that Wingen either had a few of these left when they closed down and the owners of the Weidmannsheil mark bought them, or Weidmannsheil had a few made for them. T is absolutely no question that this was one of the Gamekeeper knives from the Kershaw production. The sheath is even the same sheath that was supplied with the Wingen-marked knives. Anton Wingen Jr. has always been one of my favorite Solingen makers and I have collected their knives for years. Anton Wingen Jr. ceased operations and closed their doors in the early 1990's. However, for nearly 120 years they were one of Solingen's finest makers and produced some knives of incredible quality. This is persoannly one of my favorite knives Wingen ever made. Photographing the knife was very difficult due to the extreme reflectivity of the blade. The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened and is in perfect condition. The thick blade is beautifully forged from a solid piece of steel that forms an integral bolster and pommel. The design is simple, clean and sleek. The stag handles are gorgeous and the cut edges deeply polished. The stag is even correctly done which is very rare to see. Wingen is actually one of the few factory makers to ever do stag correctly. Note the palm swell, or thicker section of stag on the right side of the handle. Most makers simply match the color without regard to performance. The balance is outstanding and the feel of the knife is truly exceptional. The blade measures 3-7/8" in length, while the knife is 7-1/2" in overall length. The sheath is the original and is in excellent condition. This offering presents a unique ownership opportunity. This model is one of the rarest of the modern Wingen-made knives and it will likely be a long, long time before another example is available. A superb example of an exceptionally rare Wingen-made knife!!
