* Early Repousse Sterling & Glass Vesta Case * French ~ c.1880's A fabulous French Victorian era solid silver & cut glass match safe. It is simple and beautiful design and a rarity, this pocket vesta case with a glass body. The glass has a nice green color and though not obvious in the photos its surface is made of very subtle cut and polished planes, not in a pattern, but random like a planish hammered silver surface. The bottom edge is cut into a diamond pattern for the striking of the matches. The silver top rim and hinged lid are in a utilitarian, smooth ovals with only a pair French "boars head" silver guarantee stamps as their decoration. Nice size and proportion, it measures 2 inches in height and is 1 3/8 inches in width and is in excellent condition, both to silver and glass. Beautiful piece and a fine example of period tobacciana. * (please, no reserve requests) U.S. buyers to pay $7.50 flat rate, includes USPS priority shipping, delivery confirmation and full value insurance. NY residents must add sales tax. Credit card payments accepted only through * Please view my other auctions for more fine handmade and manufactured silver & metalwork
