When Pope John Paul II granted a reinstatement of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Traditional Rite as an "indult" by a local Bishop, the "Tridentiine Rite" with the Missale Romanum entirely in Latin, which had been unfortunately suppressed by the post-Vatican II declarations, it was difficult to find Complete sets of the appropriate Vestments in usable condition. It was at this time that I began to design and construct Vestment sets, as prescribed by the Sacred Congregation of Rites and the Missale of previous centuries, for use by individual Priests or for congregations and Clergy offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Traditional Rite. The necessity of such Complete Sets of Vestments has now increased since the declaration by His Holiness, Benedict XVI, now gloriously reigning, that the Mass be offered in this venerable and Sacred Rite more liberally than in the past recent years. For this reason, I have designed and begun constructing such sets using some elements from older and Vintage vestments bequeathed to me by marvelous Priests of that era, elements that I have acquired, and elements that I have Cross Stitched by hand, all taking many hours to complete.
This set, dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart, is suitable for use on any day or Mass requiring White Vestments, and especially for the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart with the Blessed Sacrament exposed during Mass. It is also quite fitting for the Christmas and Easter Seasons and the Feast of All Saints. It is designed and construced in the "Gothic Revival" Style. The Chasuble is 50" in Width, 45" in Length and is constructed, as are All Pieces of the Set, of a PURE WHITE Rayon Satin Brocade with a design of Flowers and Ribbons. The Orphreys are of Red Velvet edged with a striking trim of Gold Thread, Red and Black and the lining is of Red Satin. The VESSICA on the Back is of the SACRED HEART which was Hand Embroidered on Gold Lame by a Convent in France in the late Nineteenth or early Twentieth Centuries and is quite remarkable in its realism. It measures 9" in Height, is 5" in Width and is bordered with Red Velvet, an inner "halo" of Vintage French Gold Trim and an outer "halo" of an exquisite Braid of Gold Cord and Thread made in India. The Vessica on the Front is the venerable symbol of the Chi Rho embroidered in the Twentieth Century of Gold Silk Thread on a Red Satin Background. This Vessica is surrounded by a "halo" of the same outer trim as the Front. The Crosses on each of the Vestment pieces are of Red silk thread. The Stole in 96" in total length including the Red Fringe, and thus allowing it to hang 48" on each side when crossed, and the Maniple (most necessary for this Rite as the Insignia of Service) is 42" in total length including the Red Fringe, and thus allowing it to hang 21" on each side of the left arm. The Maniple is joined in the Front with White Ribbon and has the Tab of the same ribbon with which to pin it to the Arm of an Alb. The Chalice Veil is 21" square, and the Burse is a generous 10" square with the full "accordion style" sides, thus making it very secure to hold a Corporal. The grain of the Red Satin Lining fabric is crossed in order to keep the Corporal fom "sliding out". Plese NOTE that this Vestment Set is Hand and sewing machine stitched and has taken over 100 hours to complete as it is not a "stock item" mass produced in a factory, simply in my work room. This set would make a worthy addition to the Sacristy and Sanctuary of any Church or Chapel furnished for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Traditional Roman Rite and, as stated previously, would make a Fine Ordination Gift for a new Priest or for a Priest celebrating an Anniversary of his Ordination and wishing to return to the use of the Traditional Rite. Please continure to watch my listings each week for other New Complete Vestment Sets and Solemn High Mass Sets of various Traditional Designs (including the Roman or "Fiddle Back"), Colors, Fabrics and Trims, along with other Traditional furnishings, articles and a few Liturgic...
