This listing is a rare 1691 edition of John Evelyn's book on gardening, Kalendarium Hortense, in an atractive leather binding. Evelyn (1620-1706), an author of some 30 books, was a well to do man of unblemished character who became prodigiously learned not only in classical literature but also in science and technical matters. Known mainly for his diary, which he kept all his life, and which casts considerable light on the art, culture, and politics of the time, he also wrote a number of books on practical horticulture which exerted great influence .
