This is a rare postage stamp sheet commemorating the Bicentenary of the birth of famed author VICTOR HUGO (1802 - 1885), released by the Island of Guernsey in the English Channel where Victor Hugo wrote the classic novel "LES MISERABLES". Best known today as the groundbreaking ALAIN BOUBLIL and CLAUDE-MICHEL SCHONBERG musical, "LES MISERABLES" is now the longest-running musical in the history of West End Theatre. (The London production opened at the Barbican Centre on October 8th, 1985, moved to the Palace Theatre on December 4th, 1985 and the Queen's Theatre on April 1st, 2004 where it is still playing. The Original Broadway production opened March 12th, 1987 at the Broadway Theatre in New York City and ran for 6680 performances, becoming one of the four longest running Broadway musicals of all time.) .....
