NAVAL VICTORIA CROSS You are bidding on a full size display quality replica Victoria Cross complete with blue ribbon.This medal is a replica of that held by Midshipman Duncan Boyes VC , Royal Navy . He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions in Japan in 1864. VICTORIA CROSS Introduced as the premier award for gallantry, available for all ranks, to cover all actions since the outbreak of the Crimean War in 1854. A cross pattee. On the observe a lion statant gardant on the royal crown, with the words FOR VALOUR on a semi-circular scroll. The Cross is suspended by a ring from a seriffed 'V' attached to a suspension bar decorated with laurel leaves. Dark blue ribbon as given for Naval awards prior to 1918 Introduced as the premier award for gallantry, available for all ranks, to cover all actions since the outbreak of the Crimean War in 1854. Of the 1355 awards since 1856, 833 have gone to the Army, 107 to the Navy , 31 to the RAF, 10 to the Royal Marines and four to civilians. BOYES, Duncan Gordon. Midshipman Royal Navy.
