An unusual 18 carat gold Victorian ring with an attractive carved bezel set with a single deep pink garnet flanked by two green demantoid garnet doublets. The pink garnet is an entire stone, but the green garnets were much rarer and often used as doublets, w a table of garnet is glued over a clear centre and backed with a cullet of green garnet, so that the stone looks green from all sides, but was much more cost effective to produce! The ring is a size 6 or UK L. The shoulders are nicely engraved with a shepherd's crook design. The total length of the setting is 1/2 inch and the pink garnet is 1/8 inch wide. The demantoid garnet doublets are slightly smaller. The shank is marked for 18 carat gold. The piece dates from circe 1890, and is in good condition, with no losses to the setting or stones. The ring weighs 3.5 grams. This item will be shipped to the US and all other non United Kingdom destinations by international signed for Royal Mail, at a cost of $12. This service is trackable and includes basic insurance of $70 dollars. Insurance up to $500 may be purchased for an additional $2. The ring is presented in its rather shabby old linen covered box.
