NATHANIEL MILLS, MASONIC, 1842 HALLMARKED SOLID SILVER SNUFF BOX A stunning Solid Silver Masonic Snuff Box, by the most celebrated maker of this period NATHANIEL MILLS. Still superbly lined in Gilt, and still in its original fitted case. Fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1842. Sometimes in life, you can view an object, and it tells you a story straight away. This is one such piece! It is inscribed, "Presented to James Thornber Esquire, in grateful acknowledgment of his disinterested kindness and attention to the interests of the family, of his friend & brother, the late Joseph Simpson, March 1852" Straight away you can picture a brother helping a brother & his family in their time of distressed circumstances & need.
