An ornate Victorian 18ct gold cased (tested but no hallmarks) fob seal, set with a lovely vivid red carnelian hardstone matrix, intaglio engraved with a personal armorial crest, comprising a magnificent "Heraldic Lion Rampant", set upon a five twist wreath or torse. The matrix is in superb condition, with the engraving being crisp, clear, and well defined, the face displays a highly polished finish without any of the usual scuffs, scratches, or edge nibbles commonly found on an item of this age, the attractive symmetrical shield shape, enhances the beautiful appearance. I have not attempted to identify any family or individual associated with this crest as I fear there would be many contenders, the new owner is welcome to the priviledge. The mount is also in very good condition, being decorated with foliate and line geometry, there is small loss of the gold casing at a few locations, particularly at the corners of the base, but you do need to be looking for it to spot it, apart from this there is no visible damage to either matrix or mount. This fob seal could be used for a variety of different purposes, but would look very attractive worn on a chain around the neck as a pendant.
