Reed & Barton Silverplate Circa 1873 Aesthetic Victorian Design by George Gill Tea or Hot Water Urn Awesome Condition with Working Spigot and Burner To the many wonderful eBayers who bid on or expressed interest in my auctions last week - my sincerest apologies for the abrupt and mysterious listing cancellations! A new eBay policy now prohibits sellers from offering cash as an acceptable payment method, and as a result, I had to revise and re-list all of last week's auctions. Please see the end of this listing for all of the riveting and gory details... If you are a fan of Victorian Era silver, this renowned Reed & Barton design needs no introduction. It's a lavish display of all the best in late 1800's American aesthetic design, artfully blending elements from the Heraldic English, Egyptian Revival and Japanesque (or Japonisme) movements into a truly unique, fantastical whole. The urn features graceful oriental style florals in asymmetrical bands, Egyptian style palm leaves and trailing lilies, movable urn handles and is topped with that famous griffin or lion with a shield. The urn is substantial in size and measures about 16" tall from foot to finial, 9" wide handle to handle and 9" across from back to spigot. The piece is in very good antique condition but does have some areas of plate loss, some dings on the lid and helmet rims and assorted visible scratches but no glaring, major damage. The urn has easily retained enough plate to still really gleam with a good polish and make an impressive display. The burner holder and one leg are very slightly pushed in but the urn is still very stable. T are no repairs or monograms and the piece is structurally sound. The spigot is functional and still has both original ivory handles. The burner is not original but is vintage silverplate and fits nicely in the well.
My clients loved to entertain and took great joy in delighting their guests with elaborate dining displays showcasing their silver collection. They used this urn routinely for their holiday feasts. I've also listed the matching Reed & Barton teapot, creamer and sugar this week. These items are all part of a truly amazing lifetime collection of antique sterling and silverplate that I will be offering over the next 2 months. I estimate t are well over 150 items spanning the entire range of silver design - from whimsical and naturalistic to crisp Irish design. They belong to a wonderful couple who started collecting back in the early 80's and were early and enthusiastic sponsors of the Dallas Museum of Art's exceptional silver collection. They are preparing to move into a retirement community, and it's now time to share their treasures with some lucky new collectors. Please check my other listings for more of this awesome collection and check back often as I'll be listing more items from their exquisite silver collection every Sunday... ...and all items will start at LOW, LOW openings with no reserve! And now for the fine print... Buyer Satisfaction and Returns I am an enthusiastic buyer as well as seller on eBay and I know first hand about the wide range of "listing accuracy" on eBay and of the disappointment of receiving an item that fails to meet your expectations. So I work very hard to give correct and detailed information in my listings. I am extra picky because I want you to be very happy with your purchase. Even though I try to provide enough pictures and information to accurately describe an item, I may miss something that is important to you as a collector. So I encourage you to ask any questions prior to bidding as all of my sales are final unless I have misrepresented the item. As a professional antiques dealer though, I do guarantee the condition description, age and authenticity of my items 100%. Due to the nature of eBay, I will make every effort to answer all questions quickly and thoroughly. If I need to contact the original owner to answer your question however,...
