We found this stunning little clock lamp combination at an estate sale in the Biltmore Forest subdivision in Asheville, North Carolina. It was in a grand old house that was built shortly after the turn of the century and this item certainly reflects the transition from Victorian to Art Nouveau design. The clock lamp appears to have been made from spelter metal and was painted a dark dark bronze finish. If it were gold leafed, this has worn off over the years, but the trim around the clock appears to be solid brass. This little clock has been full of surprises since we aquired it! First it was so covered in dust that you could hardly see it. As we began to clean, we found that the clock base was in wonderful condition. T don't appear to be any holes or serious dents in the housing. The brass lamp fixtures appear to be original and each one has a thumb switch to operate the lamps. The wiring however is not original and someone has put a three pronged plug on the lamp as an update. The clock is NOT electric, a good thing that also attests to its age. The clock is marked on the dial Made by The Ingraham Company Bristol, Connecticut. The brass plate on the back of the clock also reads The E. Ingraham Company Bristol, Connecticut. Not only were the original lamp sockets working, but low and behold, the clock itself works great and keeps accuate time. I tool the back off and did a perfunctory dust blow out with compressed air and oiled the pivot points. The clock was cleaner than I expected and started ticking just as soon as it was wound. It feels strong when you turn the winding stem and really runs quite well. Measurements are approximately 12 inches tall 6 inches wide at the base and 3 inches deep. The pictures were taken with 7 watt crystal bulbs using an adapter for candelabra sockets. Please note that the adapters and bulbs are not included. The lamp is wired for a regular sized bulbs. Thank goodness that these adapters are readily available at your local lighting supply store or from other Ebay vendors. T are a few scratches on the metal casing and the bottom plate is missing, if t ever was a bottom plate. I would estimate that this clock dates somew between 1900 and 1920 given that its a combination electric lamp and windup clock. All the floral leaves are intact on the lamps and the design details are done quite well. This is a fine antique piece that will be both decorative and functional. Please ask questions and I will gladly send you more photographs if that would help. As always with antique clocks, I can only guarantee that it was working when it left my shop. I will not send anything like this without insurance, please don't ask me to. Hope you bid well and enjoy this little clock lamp as much as we have!
