This Victorian-era AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN BRACELET is an absolute beauty. The center piece is adorned with eight elaborately enameled lobes and eight beautiful cabochon-cut turquoises, which display a wonderful range of hues. Highly raised in the center is a pearl set in a silver collar. Smaller pearls adorn the links, and the little flowers on the links are also enameled, with blue center dots and red on the petals. This piece has received the gentle handling it deserves, and the enameling, stones, and pearls are all in excellent condition. Years ago, renowned Hungarian enamelist Kalman Kubinyi told me that the true hallmark of Hungarian jewelry is that it must be beautiful from all angles; it isn't enough to have a pretty front, the back must also be given the same care. Please see the close-up of the wonderfully elaborate silver work on the back of the center panel -- it's engraved, pierced, and exuberant. The only marks are 835 and the maker's initials, PV; again, please see the close-up, below. The bracelet is 7 3/8" long, not including the tongue of the clasp (which is in good working order -- it snaps shut with a very reassuring click).
