Victorian Bulls Eye Banded Agate Brooch Circa 1860-1865 Civil War Era This is beautiful example of banded agate. Very popular in early Victorian times. This piece is very simple and elegant. A large piece. Quite heavy. It measures just shy of 1 1/4 inches wide by 1 inch length wise. The stone is about 1/4 of an inch thick. The top of the stone is a rich deep dark cocoa brown...very dark...looks almost black at first glance. That is surrounded by a layer or band of bright white...followed by another deep cocoa brown layer and another thin layer of white. T is one slight chip off the back and some other very very tiny chips or nicks on the back as well. The front is flawless! Absolutely beautiful. The pin is either a brass or low karat gold. Very old. Has a simple "C" clasp. These larger examples of banded agate are extremely hard to come by. Don't miss out on this piece of history. Thanks for looking!
