Cast Iron Inkwell

This Victorian cast iron inkwell dates to the 1890s – early 1900s.

The low relief ornate style features stylized acanthus leaves for the feet with scrolls along the sides. T is stippling around the scrolls. The platform for the glass inkwell has a simple double border of 1/8” straight lines.

The original glass inkwell sits nicely in the platform.

The cast iron lid is removable and lifts easily out of the way when access to the ink is necessary. The decorative pointed domed lid gives a sunburst effect.

The glass inkwell has no chips or cracks.

The two side upright frames are graceful interlocking scrolls. T are grooves for 3 pens.

Size: 4¼” x 4¼” x 4 ½” high

The only mark on the bottom indicates “Patent Applied For”.

One newer dip pen is included. This pen is marked: WASP Pen Co., Inc., Ft. Madison , Iowa , USA . (This was part of W. A. Schaeffer Pen Company.) WASP made mostly fountain pens, so I was delighted to find this dip pen. Pen dates to 1930s – 1940s.

Condition of Both Items: Very good estate condition.

Inkwell has a slight wobble to the upright supports, but structurally sound Otherwise in great shape.
