GloriousBrown TransferwareChild's PlatePAISLEY CHINTZ RidgwaysStoke-on-TrentStaffordshire, Englandc. 1892 This striking transferware child's pie plate was originally part of an early child's miniature dinner service. It measures 4-3/8" in diameter. It is transfer printed in a rich cherry red or dark pink, abundantly decorated with a lush chintz sheet print pattern, complete with paisley, flowers, and butterflies, and geometric whimsies, a fine example of the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The plate was made by Ridgways, a pottery in Stoke-on-Trent in the Staffordshire region of England. It is marked with an impressed "92", which dates the piece to the year 1892. Other pieces in the same pattern are marked with Ridgways' bow and arrow symbol and registration lozenge that dates the pattern to 1885. The plate is in great condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. Stilt marks and a slightly thin application of the transfer along the outside of the well, original to the making, and light discoloration on the back side, consistent with age. A wonderful Aesthetic pattern, richly detailed in an earthy and festive pattern. A perfect gift for the chintz lover in your life, or for any collector of early miniature dishes. We have listed companion plates in Ridgways' Daisy and Maiden Hair Fern patterns, along with a festive selection read more
