A Wonderful Victorian Era Hand-Engraved Case Containing Two Ambrotypes of a Gentleman and a Lady- NO RESERVE! This week I'm listing several mourning and sentimental jewelry pieces from my personal collection. Here I offer for auction an American gilt brass hunter-type watch case locket, hand-engraved, with 2 mourning or sentimental ambrotypes, one of awoman and one of a man, on either side under glass. Judging by the clothing, I'd estimate the date to be circa 1850-1860. The engraving over the entire case is gorgeous, with a foliate design and blank cartouche on either side, and a scrolled design along the side. The condition is very good. The case shows some age wear to the gold plating, primarily at the top loop. There is also a small dark discoloration on one side (picture #3). The bottom hinge is in perfect condition; the suspension loop is also hinged. Each of the two covers of the case close securely, with one side a bit tighter than the other. The ambrotypes are in very good condition, showing a handsome man and a pretty lady. The photo of the lady has some minor flaking to one side of the image, but it does not encroach upon her picture. All in all, it's a lovely piece of history and keepsake of an attractive couple in a nice watch case. The diameter of the case measures 1 7/8"; the suspension loop adds another 5/8" to the top. Don't hesitate to email me with any questions and feel confident in your bids as I have 100% positive feedback as both a buyer and seller. And please have a look at the other items I'm listing for auction this week, all with NO RESERVE!Thank-you for looking and best of luck!
