This auction is for a really interesting pair of Victorian era earrings. The marquise shaped earring face has midnight black champleve enamel stripes. The center of the stripes has been bright carved with a diamond shaped, bead set seat containing a half pearl. This genuine seed pearl measures approximately 2.5mm in diameter and has a beautiful rich and creamy luster. The earring face is gold plated brass and the vintage style ear wires are solid 14k yellow gold. These earrings started life circa 1900 as a pair of cufflinks. We picked them up at an antique mall a few months ago, intrigued by the black enamel striping on them...this type of design is very Art Deco but the links were clearly Victorian with the old "bean" type of backs and the antique bead setting of the seed pearl. We love to rescue beautiful, neglected things and reimagine them to a new purpose. These cufflinks make awesome earrings. After we removed the old link backs we added the ear wires using our laser welder. The vintage style wires give the earrings a eye catching bit of swing and the 14k solid gold means you have no worries about allergic reactions to cheap mystery metal. The laser welder insures a perfect bond between the different metals with no damaging torch heat which would ruin the delicate pearl. The earring face measures 16.7mm long by 9.6mm wide. read more
