From a retired jeweler's estate comes this lovely antique necklace featuring three genuine lapis lazuli beads (two measuring 5/8 inch in diameter and one measuring 1/2 inch) and made in a delicate rope design from solid 14 karat gold. Look at the delicate work on the gold cradling the beads, and the lovely finish on each tassel bottom. They just don't do this kind of detailed work anymore. The part that goes around the neck measures just under 19 inches, and the drop portion with the tassels measures a dramatic 9 inches. The top bead is not a slider, so the length of the neck portion is not adjustable.
Let me say that I wasn't able to borrow my sister's good camera, so I apologize for the quality of the photos. The necklace clasp appears to have been replaced with a modern one, stamped 14k, and I tested the rest of the necklace thoroughly so I can guarantee the whole thing is made of solid 14k gold. There are two areas where the chain has either been cleaned very thoroughly or where it was protected from dirt and tarnish while it was stored - I can't say which. The rest of the necklace bears the patina of age, which the buyer can either remove or leave as is, if preferred. There are two issues with this necklace that I point out in the last photo; first, the top arrow shows a spot where there was a clumsy repair and the individual loops that make up the chain have been soldered together. This does not show when the necklace is worn (it's near the back of the neck). The other issue is minor - one of the component loops of the chain (lower arrow) is loose - this is something a jeweler could repair in no time, or you can just wear it as is - not noticeable, and doesn't affect the sturdiness of the chain. Weighed on my digital scale, this necklace is 21.65 grams. Of course, some of that is the lapis, but you can see from the pictures that most of the weight is gold.
