I am offering for sale a Victorian Sash pin/ brooch. The Sash pin / brooch did not start off life as such but began life as a belt buckle, but somewhere along the line for reasons unknown it was decided to take it to someone that did a very skillful job of attaching the two sections together and adding a C clasp and a pin. Both are correct for the Victorian era so I believe that the buckle was changed early in its life. I also believe that the stone in the was added after the change to 'dress' the buckle a bit, but possibly I am incorrect because it is slightly off center so perhaps it was always slightly raised in this manner so that the buckle could be fastened together. After the two pieces were joined as one the buckle was then tacked into place securely, and perhaps that was the problem with the buckle, maybe the stone became snagged on things and was in danger of becoming damaged. We can only guess. I do believe the stone to be amethyst as I see no bubbles in the stone as I would expect to if it were glass, I am not a expert however by any means. There are a few flaws that may have come from being hit up against something. The stone is rose cut which was very popular in this time frame and is popular with some collectors, it is also bezel set.The Sash pin measures 2 7/8" x 2 1/8". The pin back is in good working condition and read more
