Rare Victorian Letter Stamped Kirkaldy Penny Post etc , Red Wax Seal dated Oct 1838 from Bahia South America. Condition: Good overall condition for age as shown. Size: Document approx 17 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. Description: Letter mentions "ships 3/4 of a mile offshore at anchor in 10 fathoms of water and quite safe" "the lower town reminds me of Kirkaldy with its narrow dirty streets and broadening towards the west" "While I have a nice look out to upon the shipping and our dwelling house somewhere about Capt Weymss gate at the Dysart Colliery" plus numerous other interesting points. Unusually the letter has been double written (vertically and horizontally to save paper weight for 19th century postal costs), good example of rare international postal history.
