Offering this beautiful old victorian letter opener, incredible ornate handle depicting a bug with feelers and eyes, his body is one round and one oval section with raised detailed floral designs. This is on both sides. Opener part is brass with silver plating which has worn. Bug handle is brass with a beautiful aged patina. Measures 9 inches long x a little over 1/1/2 inches wide at handle. This opener has a rounded point due to the fact that in victorian times (late 1800's) they were still using sealing wax to close their envelopes instead of glueing the entire flap as we do today. No makers marks. Good++ condition, no cracks, one teeny dent on side edge of top part of bugs body, does not detract. Light wear on silver plating which only adds to the charm of this opener. A must have for your collection!
