This brooch dates to the mid to late 1800s. It is signed MIZPAH on the back with an arrow piercing two hearts underneath. The brooch is 12K gold filled and there is a small stamping on the back of the brooch to confirm this. Beautifully faceted and claw set topaz color glass rhinestone at the centre, foil backed and open set, and measuring a very generous 10m in diameter and full of sparkle. Lovely engraving work around the outer perimeter of the brooch depicting leaves and thistles. Mizpah means "The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another". Mizpah brooches were very popular during this era and were given in friendship and love tokens. Has a C-clasp. Measures 1.50 inches by 1.25 inches. Excellent vintage condition, could be cleaned but I have left in original condition.
