is a very intriguing photograph of a victorian mother and child daguerreotype which has me questioning if this child is alive or has passed on. This is a much larger then normal daguerreotype measuring in the case approx. 4" by 4.75". As you can see I only have half the case remaining, thats how I got it. The photo and the gilded gold embossed oval frame is under the glass. this is a very charming picture but I have some questions about it, being that the baby may be post mortem. One clue that it seems that the mother is holding up the childs head and the childs head seems to be sunken down into her shoulders. You can actually see her fingers on the childs neck and head. I dont know but the babys body looks limp and posed to me. Also the way her little hand is cupped in a fist. Her upper top lip looks black and painted and her eyes look uneven and possibly painted in. If you zoom in your computer screen, you can see what I believe to be eyes under painted eyes, but this is just a guess on my part. Both the mother and the baby have tinted pink cheeks. I am not an exspert in this field althought I have sold a couple of post mortem photos in the past, which I could obviously tell were post mortem photos, but this one has me wondering and guessing so I have to depend on the more knowledgable people who collect and bid on this kind of read more
